This time we are looking at another earplug set manufactured by Philips, the SHE8500. The packaging has a claimed 6-23500Hz frequency response, which should suffice for the vast majority of the enthusiasts and even some audiophiles. It has a 1.2 m cord. I did'nt have a problem plugging it into my music player and putting it in my pocket. A nice touch by Philips is that the 3.5mm jack is plated with 24K gold. This really differentiates this pair from many other sets in its class. As some may know, gold plated jacks or wiring in general provides conductivity that is superior to copper. The result in the end is going to be less noise, and that the jack would never get rusted. The pair comes with the now-standard 3 pairs of ear-cap rubbers to fit ears of different sizes. The wires connecting the left and right drivers are of different length so you plug the left one and the right goes from behind your neck. This actually makes the wire a bit more concealed, a plus for people who don't want to be obvious for one reason or another. There is a small case that is supposed to be for the earphones, but actually only big enough for the unused rubber pairs. The rubbers feel soft, which is nice, but one problem was that the plugs get lose from your ears with casual wire tugs. This should be a note for the active land lubbers.

Putting it to the test with a diverse playlist, this pair is the best in its class. The sound reproduction is powerful and crystal clear on all ranges. The bass is deep and satisfying. Mid-ranges are clear. High frequencies are crisp and accurate. Listening to certain pieces of music with that pair is going to reveal new instruments working in the background that you never heard that clear before. Another thing that I see as a huge plus, is that you can get this pair manufactured in Taiwan. Typically, everything is made in China right now, but you might be lucky with this. Conclusion is, if you are serious about listening to music in great quality, go grab a pair of those babies now.
