Migrating from HDD to SSD in 2017

A lot has been going on in the technology world in the past few years. While this is not the first time for me to migrate a machine from HDD to SSD, it definitely is the first time I try to do it the lazy way. Which is, I didn't backup HDD/ disconnect HDD/ Install OS in SSD/ Reconnect HDD/ Wipe drives and then smooth sail from there.

This time, I moved the OS from HDD to SSD with a small, free tool, called MiniTool Partition Wizard. It has a button in the toolbar for that specific function, so click it, follow the instructions, and you should be fine.

One note though, if you're using Windows 7 and your system is using MBR rather than GPT (don't worry if you don't know what those are). You might need to fix your Windows Startup after wiping the 2 old partitions on the HDD (system reserved partition and windows installation partition) after the process is completed. The easiest way is using your bootable Windows installation media (USB in my case) and then selecting repair installation and selecting startup repair, then rebooting and voila.

Also disconnect any unneeded USB storage media while doing the fix, if you had to do it. Enjoy.

UPDATE: Just in case you had trial/unlicensed Windows or MS Office copies, it might ask you for activation after the you boot from the SSD. You know what to do. Put the license, reactivate.
