This time we are going to look at a rather older model of a point-and-shooter, the Canon Powershot A480. For starters, Canon is known for making the best, most professional cameras, besides their accessories, so this one is coming from a really large name in the world of digital photography. The camera is targeted to casual users, so aesthetics and design are a larger concern here. The camera comes in a variety of colors to pick from. It has a smaller design, yet it's not as thin as other cameras we have seen, but regarding its price range, this one is among the better looking cameras. The camera uses AA batteries for power, which might be a plus or a minus according to your usage. For me I love this more than a lithium ion battery, because you can easily get spare batteries or even acquire them from any kiosk.. something that can't be done with Lithiums. Another thing is that the battery failure is not that disastrous. The only major drawback is cost. Another annoyance is that battery life is shorter. Quality-wise, the camera body is rigid, but the buttons are not a tight robust fit. They tend to wiggle under pressure. The optical zoom mechanism could have been finer too. The 2.5" screen is nice. The camera has shooting presets that help non-professionals get the best out of the camera. Besides that, photographers can adjust focus & exposure among other options to manually tune their pics. Photo quality is very very nice for a camera in that price range. Video is not bad either. The camera is able to capture AVI video with a standard definition resolution of 640*480 at a smooth 30 frames per second. You can view your captured video or photoes on a TV via the supplied AV cable.Overall, this camera is recommended for beginners and novice photographers by the pros, so at that price, this camera is recommended by Motech Reviews.
